Description
Most tour guides know the stories, but in this case, your tour guide knows what's behind them. Camila is a Mexican historian with a Ph.D. in Mexican/Latin American History from the University of Texas at Austin, and she currently works as a research professor at a local university. The tours she offers are based on years of archival research, fieldwork, and a genuine, ongoing curiosity about how this city became what it is today. The tours through the neighborhoods Santa María la Ribera, Tlatelolco, Downtown CDMX, and Chapultepec are perfect for the history buffs or anybody that wants to get to know this city in a deeper way. Camila brings real scholarly rigor to every street, building, and plaza you will walk alongside her. You won't attend a lecture, yet her approach is accessible, warm, and adapted to each group. Tours are available in Spanish, English, or French, so language is never a barrier to connecting with the history around you. What sets these tours apart is what Camila will show you as you walk: maps, historical photographs, and archival documents that let you actually see how each neighborhood has transformed, from the precolonial era, through colonization and independence, all the way to today, so instead of just imagining what a plaza or street looked like a century (or five centuries) ago, you'll be looking at the evidence with your own eyes and understanding why the change happened, not just that it did. Each tour also highlights the cultural heart of the area, with special attention to libraries, bookshops, and archives, the living repositories of the very history we're exploring, and often where the richest stories and rarest documents live. And because Camila is a native, she don't just know the history, she knows the city as it is lived today. So, she will point you toward the best coffee shops, bars, markets, and hidden spots along the way, making your tour not just a journey through the past, but a genuine taste of Mexico City today. Example tour, Santa María la Ribera: We meet at the Biblioteca Vasconcelos (free 10 minutes before our sheduled time. Camila will share the history of its special architecture and then proceed to visit the space for 30 minutes. After that, you will walk 25 min to Kiosko Morisco, the central plaza of the Santa María. The usual walk time is 10 minutes, but Camila will talk to you of the artists who give the names of the streets you are walking. Once at the Kiosko Morisco , you will be guided both thorugh narration and archival documents through the urban history of Mexico, its internationalization, and its literary and architectural components (30min). We end the tour with a visit to the bookshops 'Volcana Lugar Común' and 'Niña Oscura', a secret library.Includes
