Visit to Villa Protectora de San Miguel el Grande and Sanctuary of Jesús Nazareno de Atotonilco

Created in the 16th century to defend the royal road in the interior of the country, the town of San Miguel de Allende reached its height in the 18th century, when various religious and civil buildings were constructed in the Mexican Baroque style. Any of them are masterpieces of the transformation style between the Baroque and the Neoclassical.

The Jesús Nazareno de Atotonilco Sanctuary, founded by the Jesuits about 14 km from San Miguel, also dates from the 18th century and is one of the most magnificent examples of Baroque architecture and sculpture in New Spain.
