Description
The tour explores the Temple of Guadalupe, known as La Villa, built in the 17th century by architect Pedro de Arrieta. It welcomes around 20 million pilgrims each year. The Virgin of Guadalupe is a significant religious and cultural symbol in Mexico and Latin America. Her feast day on December 12 commemorates her apparitions to Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin and his uncle Juan Bernardino on Cerro del Tepeyac.
Visiting the Guadalupe Shrine offers insight into its cultural impact, relevant both to believers and those interested in history. Its significance is recognized worldwide, including by the Vatican, and it has inspired various media productions.
During the tour, you will visit both the new and old basilicas, climb Cerro Tepeyac where the first apparition occurred, and tour the Basilica Museum in the former Capuchin convent. The museum holds a rich collection of Baroque art and approximately 4,000 cultural items that document the basilica’s story.
After the guided portion, there is free time to further explore or attend mass. This experience presents a deep look into Mexican history, culture, and tradition.
