Description

Start your walking tour at Plaza Tolsá, a 19th-century square bordered by El Palacio de Minería and El Palacio de Correos, fine examples of neoclassical and eclectic architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Walk along some of the oldest streets in the city, where house layouts follow ancient canals from the Aztec capital. Visit several churches and chapels dating back to the 16th century, including El Templo de la Santísima Trinidad, a notable example of Mexican Churrigueresque architecture and reportedly favored by Empress Charlotte.

Arrive at Barrio La Merced to see one of the oldest foundries on the continent, the oldest registered house in the city, and a public market adorned with murals by Diego Rivera’s students.

Return to the University Quartier and explore 30,000 square meters of murals by Diego Rivera, Siqueiros, and other artists, including Rivera’s first portrait of Frida Kahlo.

Later, cross a replica of the Puente de Roldán, historically vital over the Acequia Real canal connecting the city center to the southern lake. The tour concludes at Zócalo Square, where you can explore the ruins of the main Aztec temple.
