Description
Depart from Mexico City to Cuernavaca, known as the City of Eternal Spring. Visit its historic center and the Cathedral of the Assumption, Mexico’s oldest cathedral with fortress-style architecture. Inside, view a 30-meter mural depicting the martyrdom of San Felipe de Jesús and the 26 martyrs of Nagasaki, alongside a rare image of Jesus in full ascension.
Continue to Taxco, a small colonial town located at the base of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains. Taxco stands out for its cobbled streets, white stucco buildings, and red tile roofs. The town’s iron balconies are often decorated with hanging flowers.
Taxco is famous as Mexico’s silver-producing capital. Learn to distinguish between sterling silver and silver-plated items and try “Berta,” a traditional tequila-based drink. Visit the main square and the Cathedral of Santa Prisca, known for its gold-covered altars and constructed by Don José de la Borda.
Enjoy a stroll through Taxco’s cobblestone streets, experiencing its architecture and the local population’s warmth. Note that the town’s taxis are classic VW Beetles, known locally as “Los Vochitos.” The tour includes return transport to Mexico City, arriving between 8:00 PM and 8:30 PM.
