Description

We will begin the tour with an introduction to the origins of Mexico City in the Zócalo, the city's main square, to learn about the time when Jews began arriving in Mexico. Just a few steps from the Zócalo, we will visit Plaza de Santo Domingo, where we will enter the Palacio de Medicina to discuss the Inquisition in Mexico. We will walk through the streets of the Jewish Quarter, where Jewish immigrants settled and founded Mexico's first synagogue. Near the Synagogue, we will see the Teatro del Pueblo (People's Theater). We will enter the Justo Sierra Historic Synagogue, established in 1941 under the name Nidje Israel, at a time when the Jewish community in Mexico was flourishing and consolidating. We will walk through the streets where the daily life of the Jews unfolded, and to conclude the tour, we will discuss important Jewish figures who have played a prominent role in the history of Mexico. We will return to the city's Zócalo.
