Description
On this tour, we will explore the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, known as “La Villa,” which was built in the 17th century by the architect Pedro de Arrieta. It welcomes about 20 million pilgrims each year. The Virgin of Guadalupe is a fundamental religious and cultural symbol for Mexico, venerated not only in the country but throughout Latin America. Her feast day on December 12 is of great significance, commemorating her apparitions to the Indigenous man Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin and his uncle Juan Bernardino on Tepeyac Hill. Whether you are a believer or not, visiting the Guadalupe Shrine is essential to understanding its cultural impact. Her story is documented worldwide, from the Vatican to other religious sites, and has inspired numerous video productions. On this tour, you will see both the new and the old basilica, and you will also climb Tepeyac Hill, the site of the miracle of the flowers and the first apparition of the Virgin. You will also visit the Basilica Museum, located in the former Capuchin Convent, which houses a valuable collection of Baroque art. The museum houses nearly 4,000 cultural artifacts and aims to share the history of the Shrine. At the end of the guided tour, you will have some free time to explore further or attend mass. Don't miss this experience brimming with history, culture, and tradition!Includes
