Description

Hot Chocolate, Pan de Muerto & Day of the Dead Introduction Begin your Day of the Dead experience with a cup of rich hot chocolate and a piece of freshly baked Pan de Muerto in a cozy, authentic Mexican restaurant celebrated for its flavors and atmosphere. As you enjoy these traditional treats, your guide — an art historian, certified tour guide, and professor — will bring the story of this celebration to life through carefully curated images and artworks displayed on an iPad. Discover the origins, symbolism, and profound meaning behind this syncretic and deeply spiritual Mexican tradition, as well as the story of La Catrina, one of Mexico’s most iconic figures. Be Part of a Real Mexican Día de Muertos Altar Before beginning your walk, you’ll have the chance to place a small offering — included in the tour — on the altar inside the same restaurant where your journey starts. Through this symbolic gesture, you’ll begin to understand the emotional and cultural depth of this day in Mexican life. If you wish, you may bring a printed photo of a loved one (please avoid originals, as it will remain on the altar) to leave as a personal tribute and heartfelt remembrance. Visit Different Altars Wander through the charming colonial streets of San Ángel, visiting museums and artisan shops that create new and imaginative Day of the Dead altars each year — each one unique, creative, and filled with symbolism. Visit a Colorful Market Explore the Mercado del Carmen, where you’ll find the traditional ingredients and materials used to build altars and prepare Day of the Dead dishes. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase items for your own offering or altar at home. Cocktail on a Terrace End your experience on a beautiful terrace, enjoying a traditional cocktail or tacos de canasta — included in the tour — while soaking in the festive atmosphere of this magical season.
