Description
Discover the magic of Alebrijes and Mexican creativity in the heart of Coyoacán. Step into a colorful workshop where you’ll explore one of Mexico’s most beloved folk art traditions — the creation of Alebrijes, fantastic spirit animals that blend imagination, symbolism, and ancestral craftsmanship.
Guided by Denise, a talented artisan who collaborates with Indigenous artists from Oaxaca, learn the meaning behind these vibrant creatures and the legends that inspired them. Then, paint your own hand-carved wooden Alebrije, brought directly from Oaxaca, using bright colors and traditional motifs that reflect your personality.
As you paint, enjoy a relaxing morning with fresh churros and authentic Mexican hot chocolate, while connecting with the stories, colors, and textures that make this art form so unique. This hands-on experience is perfect for families, friends, or solo travelers looking to dive deeper into Mexican culture.
As a special highlight, your participation helps support the Huichol Indigenous community, preserving their cultural heritage and sustaining local artisans.
For an even more immersive experience, you can choose to add entry tickets to the new “Red House” of Frida Kahlo, located just a short walk away, to visit after the workshop.
