The Grandes Ciudades Virreinales 2025 tour offers a unique experience through some of the most iconic colonial cities in Mexico. Over 6 days and 5 nights, you’ll explore the rich history and culture of significant colonial-era landmarks, focusing on architecture, art, and traditions that have stood the test of time.
Day 1: Mexico City - Morelia - Pátzcuaro
Our journey begins with departure from Mexico City to Morelia, a UNESCO World Heritage city renowned for its stunning colonial architecture. We’ll visit the monumental Cathedral, Government Palace, Plaza de los Mártires, and the traditional sweet market. We’ll also explore the Morelia Aqueduct, dating back to the 18th century, and the beautiful Chapel of Guadalupe, a prime example of religious art from the era. We continue to Pátzcuaro, where we’ll spend the night.
Day 2: Pátzcuaro - Guadalajara
Our second day starts with a visit to Pátzcuaro, a town that has preserved its colonial charm. We’ll visit the House of the Eleven Patios, Basilica of Our Lady of Health, and Gertrudis Bocanegra Library, famous for its murals by Juan O’Gorman. We’ll also explore Plaza Don Vasco de Quiroga and its traditional market. After lunch, we head to Guadalajara, 'The Pearl of the West.' Upon arrival, we check-in and enjoy a free evening in this vibrant city.
Day 3: Guadalajara - Tequila - Tlaquepaque - Guadalajara
On Day 3, we visit the Tequila region, home to Mexico’s national drink. We’ll tour one of the best distilleries to see the tequila-making process. Next, we head to San Pedro Tlaquepaque, a quaint town famous for its blown glass and crafts. Afterward, we return to Guadalajara for a free afternoon and overnight stay.
Day 4: Guadalajara - Guanajuato
We start the day visiting the impressive Degollado Theatre, Guadalajara Cathedral, the Rotonda de los Hombres Ilustres, and Government Palace, where we’ll admire the magnificent murals by José Clemente Orozco. We’ll also take a panoramic tour of the Hospicio Cabañas, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Later, we head to Guanajuato for check-in and overnight stay.
Day 5: Guanajuato
We begin with a tour of Guanajuato, exploring sites like the University of Guanajuato, Teatro Juárez, and the famous Callejón del Beso. We’ll also visit the Mummies Museum, one of the city’s most unique attractions. Free time will be provided for shopping and exploring the city’s cobbled streets. Accommodation in Guanajuato.
Day 6: Guanajuato - Mexico City
On the final day, we return to Mexico City, ending our remarkable journey through Mexico’s colonial past.
