Playacar
Are you thinking of buying your dream home on a golf course, next to the white sand beach, or renting a furnished condo for a week? Playacar offers the comfort and exclusivity many travelers to the Riviera Maya seek.Peace and tranquility
Playacar is one of the largest and most exclusive gated communities in the Riviera Maya located within Playa del Carmen. It is a self-contained community, with three modern convenience stores, a few restaurants and coffee shops, as well as other local businesses, such as pharmacies, jewelry, clothing stores, and even a private school.
The wonderful thing about it is that you get the peace and tranquility of a residential area but it’s just a few minute's walks, bike ride, or taxi trip to Playa del Carmen’s famous 5th Avenue, where literally thousands of food and entertainment options abound. From the main entrance on 10th Avenue, simply start walking north or walk down the beach, and in a few minutes, you’re in the very heart of Playa del Carmen! (Or take a taxi, which will cost about $4 USD).
In addition to containing many world-class resort hotels and luxury villas, there are a wide variety of housing options to choose from, from vacation condominium rentals to even a hostel that recently opened. Playacar was built in two phases. Phase 1 consists of exclusive beach houses and villas. Phase 2 was built around a Robert Von Hagge-designed championship golf course and enjoys a mix of accommodations such as enormous homes, quaint villas, as well as condominiums with shared common areas and swimming pools.
With its wide and meticulously maintained streets, lush jungle foliage, 24-hour security, and relatively little traffic, Playacar have become a very popular neighborhood to live in for both vacationers and long-term residents. In the mornings, its ample sidewalks are filled with residents walking their dogs, jogging, or riding their bikes.
For beach access (if you’re not staying in a Playacar resort), it is a short walk or bike ride to Playacar’s ‘public’ beach, but remember to bring your own food and drinks, as there are no permanent food or drink concessions here. If you’d rather not picnic on the beach, you can purchase an all-inclusive day pass at any one of the Playacar’s resorts and enjoy their amenities with unlimited food and alcohol (prices vary considerably depending on the season and the hotel).
