Description
On this tour, we will explore the Temple of Guadalupe, known as 'La Villa', built in the 17th century by the architect Pedro de Arrieta. It receives about 20 million pilgrims a year. The Virgin of Guadalupe is a fundamental religious and cultural symbol for Mexico, worshipped not only in the country, but throughout Latin America. Her feast day on December 12 is of great relevance, commemorating her apparitions to the indigenous Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin and his uncle Juan Bernardino on the Cerro del Tepeyac.
Visiting the Basilica of Guadalupe is essential to understand its cultural impact, whether you are a believer or not. Its history is documented globally, from the Vatican to other religious sites, and has inspired numerous audiovisual productions.
On this tour, you will see both the new and old basilicas, as well as climb Tepeyac Hill, the site of the miracle of the flowers and the first apparition of the Virgin. You will also visit the Basilica Museum, in the former convent of the Capuchinas, with a valuable collection of baroque art. The museum preserves about 4,000 cultural objects and its mission is to disseminate the history of the Basilica.
At the end of the guided tour, you will have free time to explore more or attend mass - don't miss this experience full of history, culture and tradition!
