Description
One-day tour to discover the firefly route and sanctuary in the state of Tlaxcala, Nanacamilpa, Mexico.
First, we will visit an incredible pre-Hispanic archaeological site called Tecoaque, belonging to the Acolhua culture of the Aztecs, with Teotihuacan influence. It is a beautiful place with several pre-Hispanic foundations and pyramids, open squares with incredible constructions, where we will walk along its paths to discover its history and pre-Hispanic architecture. We will also visit its local museum inside a colonial hacienda.
Afterwards, we will head to the historic center of the city of Nanacamilpa to visit its main square with its emblematic buildings and monuments, enjoy its people, landscape, and handicrafts. We will also try the typical pre-Hispanic drink Pulque, so you can learn about its history and local importance. We will try this traditional drink that is so well known in Mexico.
You will be able to sample local food and discover the cuisine of the state of Tlaxcala. Finally, we will head to the beautiful town of Nanacamilpa to visit the Firefly Sanctuary, where we will walk along forest trails to learn about the magic, nature, flora, and fauna of the magical firefly forest. We will wait for nightfall so that the fireflies can shine in the darkness. We will walk for a little over an hour to discover the landscapes and traces of the fireflies as they begin to glow. When the natural light show ends, we will head back to Mexico City.

- Eat a good breakfast before the tour. Arrive 15 minutes before the tour starts. It is a walk through the land and forest at night. The weather is cold, humid, and rainy. Your shoes may get muddy. Bring appropriate footwear with non-slip soles.
