Description
You will be picked up at your accommodation and taken to Xochimilco. The tour starts at Dalia Mercado Cultural, a Mexican restaurant with a collective craft store, where breakfast is served with vegetarian and vegan options available.
From there, you will take a pedicab to a local pier to board a trajinera, a traditional boat used to navigate the canals. The boat ride leads to Cuemanco, the ecological conservation area of Xochimilco.
At Cuemanco, you will visit a floating island called a chinampa, where you connect with nature and enjoy activities for both children and adults. Chinampas are man-made islands used for cultivation and continue to produce fresh vegetables year-round.
You will harvest vegetables to prepare a fresh salad to accompany sopes and quesadillas for lunch. Learn about the pre-Hispanic farming techniques still practiced today, feed farm animals, and enjoy the natural surroundings.
Children will participate in a painting activity creating a puzzle of the axolotl, an amphibian native to the canals and currently endangered. This allows them to take home a unique souvenir.
Lunch includes freshly made corn tortillas, sopes, and quesadillas. After lunch, the tour concludes at the original meeting point for your return.
