Description
Mexico City offers a wide variety of street food to explore. This tour introduces you to over half a dozen of the city’s most popular street foods while walking through the Cuauhtémoc and Juárez neighborhoods, areas frequented by office workers and US Embassy staff. You will meet the vendors who prepare this daily food and learn how to navigate Mexico City’s street food scene on your own.
The tour includes tastings of:
- Tlacoyos: Oval-shaped patties made from nixtamalized corn dough (masa), topped with cheese, cactus, and salsa. The stop features a vendor operating since the 1980s.
- Squash-Flower Burritos: Served steaming from the grill with squash flowers, beans, melted cheese, and your choice of homemade smoky hot sauce, prepared by a vendor with nearly ten years of experience.
- Carnitas: Tender pork chunks cooked in lard, served with lime and a potent green salsa. This version is moist and savory, different from the dry or crispy carnitas often found outside Mexico.
- Cemitas: A sandwich from Puebla with stringy quesillo cheese, avocado slices, soft bread with a crunchy crust, and sesame seeds on top.
