Description

Begin your morning at the Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo Studio House, an icon of Mexican modernist architecture and a place closely connected to the lives and work of two of Mexico’s most celebrated artists. Your experience starts with a guided visit provided directly by the museum.

After the museum, set out on foot toward a very different side of San Ángel. Walk through quiet residential streets lined with colorful façades, gardens, wrought iron, and architectural details that still preserve elements of the neighborhood’s traditional character. This part of the route offers a transition between the modernist world of the Studio House and the much older historic center of San Ángel.

As we reach the historic heart of the neighborhood, discover how San Ángel developed from the pre-Hispanic settlement of Tenanitla into the colonial and religious center whose traces can still be seen today. Visit San Jacinto Church, one of the oldest churches in Mexico City, Plaza San Jacinto, and Casa del Risco, while learning about the area’s colonial and religious past.

Sán Ángel is also known for Mexican crafts and contemporary artisan design. Along the way, we’ll pass local craft shops and galleries and share a few recommendations for places you may want to return to after the tour.

Finish at Mercado del Carmen, a gastronomy and design market housed in another of San Ángel’s historic properties. If you select the mezcal option, end the experience enjoying a few mezcales and a Mexican bite.

After the tour, you can stay in San Ángel for lunch or return to the shops, galleries, and places recommended during the walk.
