  • Explore how Mexico celebrates life, death, and the souls of loved ones
  • Why does Mexico celebrate death as a part of life? Discover the mystery.

Description

Throughout your visit to the National Museum of Anthropology, we will discover how different societies understood death, treated their dead, and developed ideas about transformation, the underworld, ancestors, and the continuity of life.

The goal is not to claim that the Day of the Dead, as we know it today, existed in pre-Hispanic times, nor to present the contemporary celebration as a tradition that remained unchanged for thousands of years.Instead, the tour explores something more interesting:

how different societies developed their own ways of relating to the dead and how, over time, these traditions came into contact, evolved, and contributed to the diverse expressions of Day of the Dead that we know today.
