Description
Begin in San Angel, a southern Mexico City neighborhood known for its mansions with rich histories. Next, visit the Museum of El Carmen, originally a monastic school built between 1613 and 1628 by the Discalced Carmelites. The museum houses more than 80 religious art pieces, including 12 mummified bodies, and features a large garden that was once an orchard for the friars.
Continue to Bazaar Saturday, established in 1960, known as a center for fine craftsmanship. The market offers a variety of handmade products such as silverwork, iron, ceramics, wood, textiles, glass, tinplate, jute, and paintings.
Finish with a tour of Chimalistac, an old and affluent neighborhood named after a pre-Hispanic settlement, Temalistac, meaning 'where the stone is sacrificed.' Discover stone bridges and small colonial-era chapels that reflect the area's history.
