Description

This tour reveals women's participation as soldiers, nurses, writers, and painters, particularly in the codices of the Florentine Codex by Bernardino de Sahagún. It covers Nahua women's roles as painters, educators, and mediators between Spanish and Nahua armies, beyond Malinche’s ambassadorial role, spotlighting other women depicted in Tlaxcala pictograms and paintings.

The route starts at the Templo Mayor ruins, proceeds to María Estrada's house, passes behind the Metropolitan Cathedral along Guatemala Street to the Souls of Purgatory chapel, and enters Calmecac at the Spain Cultural Center (former Nahua nobility school). The tour continues to Moctezuma's old houses and the Old Palace of Axayacatl, father of Moctezuma II. It follows 5 de Mayo street, stopping at Dulcería de Celaya for dulce de leche and coffee, then moves past the Cathedral to Moneda Street, ending at the Old Archbishopric Palace, now the Treasury Museum.
