Description
Depart Mexico City for Tlachichuca, Puebla, then take a 4x4 to the Piedra Grande mountain hut for overnight accommodation. Upon arrival, enjoy an acclimatization walk and practice using crampons and an ice axe. Return to the hut for dinner and prepare for the next day's ascent.
Start your trek before dawn to reach a vantage point for sunrise views over the valleys around Pico de Orizaba. Watch the sun's first rays reflect off the glacier leading to the mountain crater.
Follow the glacier to the summit at 5,700 meters, Mexico's highest point and the third highest in North America. After taking in the summit views, descend to the hut where transport back to Tlachichuca awaits. Enjoy a restorative meal before returning to Mexico City.
