From CDMX: Hot springs and thermal baths in Tolantongo caves
Mexico
This wonderful destination is a gift from nature that we can visit and enjoy today. It is located in San Cristobal, hidden among the mountains, the lush nature and the water that flows from them.
Experience a day trip from Mexico City to Tolantongo Gorge with thermal pools, hiking, and local cuisine, ideal for nature and adventure lovers.
Your day starts with an early pickup from your accommodation in Mexico City. Travel to El Arenal, Hidalgo, where you will enjoy a traditional Mexican breakfast at a small family-owned roadside food stand.
Continue through colorful mountains and small towns to San Miguel Tlazintla. Stop at a local shop where you can buy towels, water shoes, drinks, and snacks. Upon arrival at Tolantongo, take in views of the Grand Canyon of Tolantongo and visit the small chapel built by local residents.
Descend the mountain’s 23 curves to Paraíso Escondido, home to over 40 thermal pools. Explore the Paraíso Tunnel and cross its suspension bridge. Optional activities include a zipline across the Tolantongo Valley, nearly 2 kilometers long, available at an additional cost.
Hike towards waterfalls flowing down the canyon walls leading into the main cave. Discover the river’s source inside, admire stalactites, stalagmites, a hidden inner waterfall, and the horsetail cascade.
Experience a natural steam sauna in a 40-meter-long tunnel heated to 40°C. Relax in the warm turquoise waters of the Tolantongo River, known for their natural exfoliating properties.
The tour ends with a meal of typical Mexican dishes at a local restaurant in San Miguel Tlazintla before returning to your accommodation in Mexico City.
