Description
Spend a day outside the city and discover Taxco, a 'Magical Town' and the Silver Capital of the World.
We'll depart Mexico City and first make a short visit to Cuernavaca, the 'City of Eternal Spring.' There, we will visit the historic center with its beautiful Cathedral of the Assumption, the oldest in Mexico, with a fortress-style construction. Inside, we can see a unique 30-meter mural that narrates the martyrdom of San Felipe de Jesús and the 26 martyrs of Nagasaki in Japan. Also notable inside the church is an image of Jesus in full ascension and not crucified, as in most other churches.
We'll continue on to the Magical Town of Taxco, a small colonial city located at the foot of the slopes of the Sierra Madre del Sur, with a unique style of architecture that stands out for its cobbled streets and white stucco houses with red tile roofs. The iron balconies on the windows are usually overflowing with beautiful hanging flowers.
Taxco is also known as Mexico's silver-producing capital, so you'll find a wide variety of silver items to buy. We'll learn to distinguish between silver and silver-plated items and try a traditional drink known as 'Berta' made with tequila. We'll visit the main square and see the Cathedral of Santa Prisca, whose altars are covered in gold and which was built by Don José de la Borda, the wealthiest man of the time.
Walking through its cobblestone streets, we can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of a typical Mexican town, the warmth of its people, and its beautiful architecture.
A notable feature is that the taxis used by the entire population are the famous VW Beetles, which Mexicans affectionately nickname 'Los Vochitos'.
At the conclusion of the tour, drop-off in Mexico City.
