Description
Tepito is not visited alone — you enter with someone who knows it from the inside. This walking tour is guided by a local who opens doors that no conventional sightseeing tour visits: the oldest neighborhood in the area, the local art gallery, the church where Cuauhtémoc was imprisoned, and the Cloroformo Boxing Team gym, where the tour ends with a live boxing exhibition.
You start in Las Letras de Tepito, where the team welcomes you and tells you how Mexico's most famous, mysterious, and controversial neighborhood was born. From there, you walk from stop to stop, talking with real residents and discovering the history behind every corner: the first church in the area, the Maracaná Sports Center, the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, the old laundries, and some altars that only locals know about.
The tour includes a meal at an iconic stand — Las Migas, Tacos de la Suerte, liver and tripe tacos, or the legendary Queso-Carnes — a complimentary drink, and a souvenir from the neighborhood. At the end, the team will accompany you back to the starting point or to a safe transportation location.
